What to test in your Base44 app

Base44 separates access to the live app from access to its editor. Live app roles control what users can see and do, so a review should include the roles your team actually uses. Base44 access and roles documentation.

For an expense tool, test a submission as a staff member and a decision as a manager. Compare the amount, status, and notes in both accounts. Decide what should happen if the staff member edits an expense while it is awaiting approval, then test that rule through the app.

Can each person see and use the records appropriate to their role?
Do the submitted amount and approval decision match in both accounts?
What happens to an approval if the expense changes during review?

Submit an expense for manager approval

A staff member wants a decision on the expense they submitted, and a manager needs to know which amount they are approving.

Where the customer starts: A staff test account with a draft expense and a manager test account with access to the approval queue.
What a successful result looks like: The manager reviews the submitted amount and makes a decision. Both accounts show the same final amount and status, following your rule for edits during review.

Cases to try

Try to edit the amount while the expense is awaiting approval.
Keep the manager's review screen open while the staff member changes the draft.
Reopen the expense after a decision and refresh both accounts.

Problems to look for

The manager approves one amount while the staff member sees another.
The approval queue updates, but the staff member's list still says awaiting review.
The app allows an edit after approval without handling the existing decision.

Steps to repeat the problem

Submit a draft expense from the staff account.
Open the manager account and approve that expense.
Refresh the expense list in the staff account and reopen the expense.

What happens

The manager's view shows approved. After refreshing, the staff member's list and expense detail still show awaiting review.

Why it matters

The staff member cannot tell that a decision has been made and may ask the manager to review it again.

Include both roles and the record's status in a Base44 prompt or developer handoff. This makes it possible to follow the same expense through the two views while investigating the finding.

Reject an expense with a reason the staff member can read.
Reassign a pending expense to another manager.
Export approved expenses and compare the amounts.

What to bring to the review

Provide separate staff and manager test accounts for the live app.
Describe who should be able to submit, edit, approve, or export an expense.
Supply sample expenses and explain the rule for edits after submission.
